Cave Creek / Carefree
Rustic, Old West charm with horse property, local restaurants, a strong arts scene and wide-open desert.
Cave Creek and Carefree have rustic charm and an Old West feel. Rocks are everywhere, many roads and paths are unpaved, and you'll see horses all over. It's serene, tucked between mountains, and a couple of degrees cooler than Scottsdale thanks to the elevation.
Restaurants and coffee shops are locally owned, with almost no chains, and signs are kept low-key so the desert stays the desert. There's a big arts community, and places like the Buffalo Chip Saloon, with bull riding, make it a night-out destination for the whole Valley.
Homes are mostly single-family, including a lot of horse property, with some condos and townhomes. Hilltop homes come with big views to the north.
